Zara and Hugo were already there as they were part of the school show team. Each year a group of students and some kind parents travel to town for the week and exhibit livestock, including goats, sheep and cattle.
In the past they also show poultry, which is Elsa's niche, but it is a lot more labour intensive and we didn't have the staff support this year.
Zara showed a Boer goat she named Pistachio.
She bonded well with her goat and was able to present it and walk it well.
Unfortunately, that is not all that the goats are judged on.
Notice the sad looking owners.
The goats are also judged on their carcass weight.
Hugo was exhibiting sheep.
They came in with a third for the wool and a fifth in the meat.
Elsa was quite happy to meet her girlfriends and go off for some fun.
Matilda wanted a bouncy castle.
Throw in a climbing wall and she was one happy chicken.
It was pretty slippery in the light rain.
But she made it with a little help from her friend.
Lidia had spent twelve months talking about this 'ride'.
When it was time to line up, Jed said she was a little nervous.
Looking at this photo I can see why!
I always get so nervous seeing her do things without her glasses.

Ah Lidia got her turn on the inflatable balls :) Oh that was sad about the goats and those sad-looking girls... still, your kids are well in touch with reality. Nice to see you are all involved in that 'real' side of the show!
ReplyDeleteShe did Jane, and had a blast.
ReplyDeleteIt was so sad about the goats. I had no idea!
I was giving Zara tips about training the goat with sultanas and spending more time with it so it would present well. I felt so bad when Hugo pointed out what happen to them!
Needless to say, she isn't doing it next year.

Poor Z! The kids around here show cattle, and the teary eyed teenage girls always just kill me! Jed is a keeper, for sure!
ReplyDeleteJed did well.
DeleteI know, we should be farm tough but the poor animals be slaughtered got to me too.

It is sad about the goats. Of course, if you aren't attached to the goat in question, they are quite delicious. Pistachio was so pretty though. And I see Tildy in another charming coat. -Maggie
ReplyDeleteWe are quite partial to goat curry Maggie but eating ones pets is not easy.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
