Field Trip Down on the Farm

Tildy needed trousers.
More Oliver+S, this time the Field Trip tee and trousers.
The cargoes have lots of pockets for treasures.
As Tildy is so slight I got some advice from the Girls in the O+S forum on sizing.
The body fit is spot on (18-24 month) but they could have been longer (4T)
I may add a ribbing cuff to the ankle if she shoots up.
I forgot the neck band is quite generous on the Field Trip tee.
I had trimmed and topstitched by the time I remembered, grrrrr.
I usually measure the finished neck and cut my ribbing to 2/3rds the length and then check the fit over the child's head.
My sewing Gal-Pal Cindy, suggests popping it over your own head!
Genius!
I was not sure the knit would cope with unpicking so I folded the excess and made a wee flap with some poppers.
It works.
To add length I drafted the size 4T length onto the size 18-24 month size.
This way I can re-use the 18-24 month size.
Now when I drafted the front leg pieces something went a bit pear shaped.
Too short.
No a huge deal, I drafted and cut an extra band for the bottom.
Saved!
A pretty good save if I do say so myself!
Just the job for checking the ewes.
Up close and personal.
Cleaning Dad's hand piece
Missed a bit, Daddy.
Me and my mates.
Beautiful girl.
That's the days work done.
Just time for a quick tree climb.
Then head home to Trixie.

    1. Thank you Kristin, I must try and take more 'action' shots. The flies, wind and heat can dampen my enthusiasm somewhat.
The cargoes were a hit, thank goodness.

  6. I love this combo! And actually the cargos look super cute in that cropped length with boots, like you intended it that way! Adorable! And yes, I've had the same issue with the raglan neckband. Honestly I don't even go by the pattern piece anymore, I just eyeball a strip, measure it (testing over your head! so sensible!) and serge it on. It works some of the time, anyway. LOL! Which is about the same amount of the time that it worked when I was more precise about it!

    1. The cropped leg is good for grass seed prevention too Inder :)
The Field Trip is a great tee but I think the neckband is meant for a ribbing? I don't know, but I would hate to put people off a great pattern so I think sharing quirks is a good thing.

      Thank you

    1. That poor hat was once a proud Stetson. My brother purchased it in the USA for Hugo, to wear as his page boy.
It had a dunk in the ocean and was never the same since. Tildy loves it and they have all worn it.

  8. Love this! And so clever mixing up the sizes and fixing the neck. The only time I made this shirt my neck was way too wide. Good to know it's an issue for others before I try this pattern again. Lovely to see the clothes in action on your farm, too!

    1. Thank you Elizabeth, I need to add some length but not too bad a fit. They definitely would have been too baggy if I had made the 4.

  11. Great outfit Nicole. Some clever saves for the neckband and knees!
The photo of Tilly up the tree with backlighting is an absolute winner. Print that one!

  12. I love these photos! You have the most idyllic looking life!
The cargoes in velvet look very posh, I must remember to try that if I ever spot any fabric.

  13. Tildy is very tactile Katy and loves velvet. She has picked a pretty rose pink piece for a dress next. We are considering a Library dress....
We love our farm and know we are very lucky.

  14. It looks like Tildy's new pair of trousers did just the trick for her visit to the farm. She looks beautiful in them, Nicole. You did an amazing job whipping that outfit up! The photos came out totally lovely as well. The farm looked like it was in great shape; it certainly helped those captured moments look even more wonderful! Thanks for sharing and all the best to you! :)
