Roller Skate Girl

Seriously, I am always late to the party.
The Roller Skate dress party.
I don't have a lot of sewing time anymore so I like my sews to be interesting.
I had dismissed this dress as a 'quick sew' and possibly a bit ho-hum.
Liddy needed a yellow tunic for Presentation Night. I thought it might be a good time to crack out my Roller Skate pattern.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed sewing it.
Buttery soft butter yellow linen lined with cotton poplin.
I really like the wee Puppet Show-ish sleeve caps.
I used embroidery silk to work a simple running stitch and found a lovely painted MoP bird button for the roulette loop.
Such a nice finish.
So flattering on her willowy frame.
Yellow is her colour.
Isn't she gorgeous?
She did a great job dancing.

  1. The color, as well as the silhouette, suit her! I recently picked up this pattern too but have yet to sew it. I think it will be a good fit for my skinny girl too!

    1. Thank you Masha, I feel a bit silly for taking so long sew this. I have a gorgeous back and white border print that I think would suit Tilly in this pattern.
Add some length and check where the elastic casing sits. I will alter the next one for Lidia.

    1. I really like the neckline Colette and it makes it a more challenging sew.
I love the way the lining and main sews up.
      Thank you!

  4. Thank you Kristin, it is great when a costume can still be functional.

    1. Thank you Shelley.
I think the border print will be just the job and if I don't get to it for Tilly then Trixie can have it.

  6. She's such a pretty slip of a girl, it does suit her well. I like your black accents with this -- I've hesitated to do it in a plain color as I thought it would be too boring but it's actually quite elegant and sophisticated like this.

    1. Thank you Christine.
That is such a nice thing to say, she is so skinny but has broad shoulders , I think she may be a big girl yet!
I thought this would be a really quick sew but I was pleasantly surprised and how technical it was, or maybe I am just tired?
I find i am sewing in plain colours and fabrics more often, my children do prefer it too.

  7. Ah, I love this pattern! You're right it's a quick sew, but the facing and finishing make it more interesting. Of all of the things I've made Maggie, she has gotten the most wear out of this dress. Next summer, I must make her some more!

  8. I was surprised Inder, I guess I was making a large one but I didn't find it quick at all.
By the time i had trimmed and pressed and fussed it was a solid sewing project. I would think a little one would be quicker.
My guys don't need a lot of clothes (hand me downs and I wash daily) but if we did I could imagine this pattern being fantastic for running up half a dozen little dresses.
    Thank you!

  9. This is one I have yet to try but always hope to! I think the fact that it's lined, I assume t to be heavier than I am looking to make at the time. This turned out beautifully!! Yellow truly is her color - she's radiant!

  10. Thank you Melissa.
I would recommend a very light fabric for the lining but it is a lovely dress. I think the secret is to not cut corners, take your time trimming and under stitching, to get that perfect result.
Thank you so much for finding me on Instagram!
