Forest Path Cape

I tend to sew methodically.
I have so many patterns now I don't buy new ones unless I need them *unless they are vintage eBay*.
I have owned the Forest Cape since its release but no one needed a cape and, I confess, it looked a bit of straight forward sew so it was pushed down the queue.

Liddy found the poly/wool cloth ($9/m) in Melbourne and wanted a soft jacket.
She rejected the O+S  Fire Fly as she has one for school already, the Heidi and Finn cardigan was only for knit so I suggested the Forest Path.

I knew it would be well cut and great instructions but I was anticipating a fairly dull sew.
Well, much like Lidia's Rollar Skate dress (which I also dismissed as ho-hum) it was an awesome sew.

The instructions are so good.
Good, solid foundation stitching, tips for turning the perfect curves, pre-marking and applying interfacing, ironing advice.
The lot.
You could probably skip them and still get a cute garment, take the time to do them and you will get a gorgeous garment.

The cape is very neat but still has plenty of room. Lid's can ride her bike, bounce on the trampoline and sweep the veranda just fine in it.

I used a stretch, satin backed crepe (also from Eliza's) for the lining.
It was $3 in the remnant bin.

The buttons are lush!
Iridescent, enamelled shell from eBay stitched with black embroidery silk.

I think this cape is so cute and gorgeous, it works great with my red trousers and my blue and brown bead headband.
I love the turquoise buttons and the fabric is just gorgeous with the petite little red pattern of the material. I have already decided to wear it to Nan's next time we go.


I don't sew as many O+S patterns anymore. Beatrix has so many hand-me-downs (including many from dear friends) but it was a pleasure to pick one up again.
