The Big Reveal

Well, it was as stressful as sewing a wedding dress.
From Pinterest
The inspiration...
The realisation...
Waistcoat has been cut out but didn't happen, not yet, it will but it is likely to be too jolly hot indoors anyway.
Just in case you are new to my waffling Beamish Boy knocked us all for six 18 months or so ago but declaring he wanted to do medicine and be a country GP.
He asked me to make he a special outfit to wear to his interview.
The jeans are a vintage KwikSew in denim/wool from Spotters.
The shirt the lovely Aime Comme Marie mens shirt in Liberty lawn.
The sports coat a Lekala custom fit jobbie in Herringbone wool.
He actually wore it today, to the practice session for the interview/exam.
He may have been a little over dressed.
He may have been dressed very similarly to the lecturer.
But he didn't care, he liked it and that is all that matters to me.
Hugo has been working, full time, in his gap year but has decided after today to spend a full day a week prepping for his UMAT.
He came out the of the full day session absolutely psyched, so excited and then promptly passed out for an hour.

Keep your fingers crossed for him, come August, won't you?

    1. Snicker-snack. I hope so Deb. He came home so pumped and almost a bit desperate.
I really hope he gets it.
      Thank you!

He looked so grown up and handsome (in a group of young people, most wearing skins) but he fitted in a had a great time.

  3. He looks fantastic, Nicole. Hope you can still sew for him when he's away on the next adventure. He'll be the best dressed GP in Aus (& possibly the world).

  4. C, he asked for 6 shirts, all Liberty, so he can wear one each day.
Thank you, it means so much to him and we are desperate for GP's, I hope he makes it.

  5. Fingers and toes crossed for you Beamish! Get used to the suit situation. You'll need one for everyday of the week, country club etc😉 It looks top notch. Well done Nicole and such exciting adventures await you H!

  7. Brilliant seeing mum, and best of luck to the boy! I'd be willing to guess there's nothing a university professor likes better than a student who looks like a "mini-me" version of themselves. That kind of subtle flattery will do wonders. :)

  8. I think you may be right, they discussed shirts.
Thank you, so many people apply, he has the ATAR he just needs to ace the UMAT.

  9. A lovely read & amazing sewing work again Nicole. The double vents on this look really good.
Go well Hugo. Hope these next few months aren't too stressful.

Lol to shirt discussions ^^ & surely there's not really such a thing as 'over dressed' when a goodly smile like Hugo's accompanies an outfit. :)

    1. Thank you Renae.
I did wonder if the workshop may put him off but it certainly did not.
Interestingly, he did really well on the emotional and problem solving aspects. The lecturer said that people tend to do well on one or the other.
Other areas he didn't do as well so he needs to practice.

I will pass on your good wishes.
      Thank you!

    2. Good on him. Interesting, but probably not too surprising re-skills in these areas. Country air, creative flair & excellent parenting & all. ;)
Great for him to get an idea on what he needs to improve. Onward!

  10. Beautifully tailored jacket!
Hmmm, didn't know (being from the US) what a UMAT was, nor an ATAR for that matter - but just "googled" them. I guessed that is was "med school" admission related, but I was pretty sure Hugo wasn't old enough to be and undergraduate grad (i.e. had earned a a college degree) In the the US, one has to have an undergraduate degree in order to take the MCAT. So how many years does one study medicine in Australia? Good Luck to Hugo!

    1. Thank you Designdreamer.

I gather it is 7 years. 2 years undergrad degree 4 years medicine and a year intern.
I may have that a little wrong but that is the gist of it.

      I appreciate your comment!

    2. Hmmm, interesting. It's 4 years undergrad here. My "baby" recently completed her 2nd year. Sob!!
She's planning on psychology, and is the first of my 4 that not only KNEW what field she wanted to obtain, her degree in when she started, but is STILL sticking to it. She seems pretty sure still, so that means she'll most likely also continue on to get her Masters, if not also her PHD. (Doctorate)

On a completely different subject, I'm SO impressed by all the clothing you've made, it boggles my mind. In the past I thought the "EGLINGTON" you stenciled on some of your clothing was you last name, but somewhere along the line, I noticed you included your name, so then I googled it, and wikipedia had something about it being related to soccer,(I think) but also an "unpopulated locality in Western Australian". So now I'm thinking it's your hometown or something? I hope I'm not getting too personal here, it's just that I've noted the tape you've put around necklines (as well as the stencils) and have wondered where you obtain it.
Truth be told, I've been fascinated with anything Australia since I've been in High School, and one of our exchange students was from there.

    3. I wish her all the best!
One of my Twins wants to be a teacher but the other isn't sure, something to do with science and animals but not sure what, exactly.
Lidia wants to do Midwifery, has done since she was 6, at 13 she is still sure.
      We shall see...

Eglington is a family name but, ironically, was spelt incorrectly on my first lot of name labels so I just went with it.

You are not being too personal at all!
      I love to chat!

  13. Great jacket. A lot of time and detail has gone into it and it looks fabulous. He looks very much like a country GP, or have I just watched too much UK tv!

Good luck to your son and his medical studies. Here in NZ entrance is not restricted if you have good enough grades to enter Uni, but only 10% of students make it past first year health sciences and go on to study medicine. My daughter considered it but the financial and time commitment was too much for her to get her head around so she stayed at home (medicine is studied in Dunedin and Auckland) and is doing a science degree majoring in physics and hopes to become a medical physicist so still in the medical field.

    1. Thank you so much.
I did spend around 20 sewing hours (on his blazer) but many many more googling techniques and just thinking about it.
(Just quietly, I love a BBC medical drama too)

Thank you for your good wishes, I am so nervous for him, he wants this so badly. I hope your daughter does well and enjoys her studies.

The university he hopes to attend is only two hours away and we have purchased a flat in the city for the Biggies to 'rent' from us. He plans to head home and play footy on the weekends, the club will pay him, so that is an incentive. I hope so, I will miss his lovely face.

Thank you again for your lovely comments.

  14. I'm married to a university prof, and his wardrobe certainly doesn't look this good! I love it all so much! And, please tell me you will be making those shirts!

Students with this kind of confidence always stand out. He really looks to own what he's all about. I do hope he gets where he wants to be!

    1. LOL Thanks! I'm so glad he loves it! I don't know if I mentioned in my note but when you wash it, turn it inside out. That keeps the vinyl intact - and dry low or on the line :)

I love making the shirts as much as I love sewing! So happy to have other GOT fans too! Do you guys watch the show on HBO at all? Do you get HBO? I'm not sure if that is just a US station lol. Or so you just read the books? The show is now beyond the books and it is crazy!!

    2. Hugo and I are the only ones who watch it. The Twins have wandered through (they are 17) but it is a bit gory for them and no vampires...

We are way behind as we have to buy it from iTunes

I will wash the tee with great care, he absolutely loves it!
