This sew was a request, from me!
I found this pretty piece of polyester boucle in the remnant bin at Spotlight. I could see it in a neat little two piece and Lidia very kindly obliged me in being the recipient.Don't you just love it when a vision turns out as you hoped for?
The waistcoat is Lekala #5017 a custom fit, made to measure pattern.
I took great care cutting and lining up the plaid, due to the small amount of cloth I had to cut each piece individually. I lined the waistcoat with a scrap of mushroom pink, delustered satin. It is quite stiff and gives a lovely structure to the garment. The buttons are faux tortoiseshell. The waistcoat has the loveliest detail in the form of a back notch. I took advantage of this is display one of my silver 'E' charms.
The A-line skirt is from the Sewist website. This pattern company is similar to Lekala however YOU are the designer .
A very simple but very wearable style. I lined this piece with stretch satin as Liddy requested a very firm fit and I find a stretch material prevents the lining 'riding' up.
Again, I snuck a wee 'E' on, this time from the waistband.
A lovely skirt, perfect for University.
It is a tad firm (in my opinion) as I realised I had not updated Lidia's measurements for 12 months but she likes the fit.
~My Verdict~
Fun sewing.
The vest is actually a top style rather than a layering piece but it works well here. It would be lovely made in a brocade or heavier silk maybe a linen as an independent clothing item.
The fit was perfect, we use the wide shoulder adjustment for Lids.
The A-line skirt was a pattern someone else had made up, I just put in Liddy's saved measurements. I was surprised at its lack of darts but it works. Next time I sew it I will update her measurements as it was a bit snug. Luckily Sewist use 5/8ths seams so I could let it out.
Sewist have slighter better instructions than Lekala but they feel quite generic. They obviously processed in regard to the selection you make in regard to pattern style. For this skirt, it was fine but I have just finished an incredible dress for Lidia with lantern sleeves and the directions were simply 'sew the seams'.
This is such a cute set that I am so excited to wear to university. The colours are so special and the fabric is so soft to wear.
I am so excited to style it as I think I can make it work for all weathers. It looks lovely with a blouse underneath but very pretty by itself as well. It’s a beautiful set that I think plan to wear with heels dressed up or in a more casual way.
We had a little scare with my bum growing and the skirt almost didn’t fit, but mum was able to magic it bigger and it fits me now.
I absolutely love it.
