Last time I sewed this I used a rigid woven and sized up. This time I used a stretch fabric as suggested, a very stretchy poly/cotton poplin I purchased from Eliza's of Sunshine.
Regal, was the word Lidia used to describe it and I agree.
A back yoke, princess seams, extended sleeve placket, ruffles and an extra long cuff add up to a very fancy sew!The fit is perfect. As well as her saved measurements we tick the extra back width and extra arm length options.
This is the pattern, no alteration, no fitting, just cut and sewn. Perfection.
That ruffled neckline is so pretty.
The cuffs, elegant.
It is very important in Lidia's clinical assessments that her hands are not covered so I moved the buttons inwards for a firm fit. I did this rather than make a narrow cuff so I can let them out later, if required.
Lekala instructions can be a little brief. I did get confused sewing the front placket and collar. I decided to finish it by sewing the front placket top to the front bottom edge of the collar stand. After that, I pressed the seam up and then stitched the collar stand and front band as one. Then I carried on, pressing and trimming as I sewed.
~My Verdict~
A bit of a challenging sew. I will admit to some frustration sewing this and when I read back on my blog, I did last time too.
That said, I am sure I will sew it again and the notes I have made should help with that.
Lidia has styled it tucked into trousers as well as loose over an A-line skirt. The colour works well in her existing wardrobe, being neutral and is a potentially more wearable for a second day than white.
~Lidia's Verdict~
This is one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. And all though I say that about every new thing Mumma sews, this one is so special.
I am in love with the structure of the collar, it sits up in such a beautiful and powerful way. Looks lovely and regal.
The fabric was an amazing choice, by mum, it’s super stretchy and structured meaning it looks very neat and tidy but I can still move and do CPR and such.
I really love it an am very excited to wear it, it will be one worn very often.
Thank you for reading... xx Nicole
