Don't Just Pin It

Don't you just love Pinterest?
I do, but I am guilty of pinning far more then I could ever create.
So I set myself a challenge
Don't just pin it!
I think I did rather well.
Oliver+S Playdate dress
The Oliver+S Playdate dress looked to be just the job.
I hemmed the ends of the ruffle before attaching it.
I doubled the neck length.
Two rows of gathering thread and pin and basted in place.
I used hanky linen (ramie) to reduce the risk of colour runs.
I gathered the sleeve ruffles to fit after sewing the sleeve tuck.
At Tildy's request, I sewed the pocket bags in place a la Playtime dress
I will admit, I was not too sure about the finished dress.
(Fully lined  by the way)
Slightly worried I was making my daughter into an extra for a miniature version of Downton Abbey.....
But Matilda lurved it!
It had pockets!
And lined with silky cotton voile, it is delicious to wear next to the skin.
Did I mention the pockets are stitched in place so easy to find?
Tildy is so slight I made the size 3T with several inches added and re-cut the hem facing to fit.
It is a little short but will work well over leggings.
And who doesn't love little knees?

I have a full tutorial if you want to make one too!

xx N

PS I have been MIA due to a damaged laptop, I have really missed you all!
I may be a bit 'post heavy' whilst I catch up.

    1. Thank you Elizabeth, a few hours into it I was a bit worried. I think the inspiration dress may have been knit?
Tildy has worn it several times already so, if she is happy, I am happy!

  6. Pass on my thanks to your tech help (Hugo) as I've missed seeing more details of what you make too.
This dress could have gone wrong in so many ways but you navigated it perfectly to get a gorgeous result. The monochrome, plain fabric works well with the mad ruffles and how Tilly styled it with her hair back and grey knee socks is perfect. Bravo on a bold make!
I've never really got consumed by pinterest, but I can see its appeal for inspiration pictures

    1. Hugo is my techno guru, that is for sure Shelley.
I had my doubts about this one, but it was for her birthday and she chose it and I only had a book to go with it. I had to finish it!

I love Pinterest, it keeps me from snacking (whistles nonchalantly)
      Thanks Shelley.

  7. The styling for this dress worked so well - I love the way it fits her ;)
I'm guilty of pinning too much as well - need to set myself a similar challenge!
PS: I'm a bit short of time for reading posts as well, so your MIA might actually have been good for me :)

    1. I do love my pinterest Ana Sofia. I tend to search for anything I need. Cleaning tips, cooking and clothing!

  8. Tildy looks adorable in that Edwardian look and you captured it just perfectly! I love how the ruffles stand up at the neck and the knee socks and Maryjanes are the perfect accessory. I, too, post way more than I will ever make up but I have decided that it is my online magazine. All of my sewing magazines have stopped publishing and I miss them. (Creative Needle, AS&E, Sew Beautiful, Handmades). I have actually made several of the recipes I've pinned and used a few of the embroidery designs. If it weren't for Pinterest I wouldn't know about Oliver + S!

  9. Thank you Karen!
She is so adorable when she finds something she likes, I just had to sew it for her.

I love Pinterest, I even start conversations with strangers.

  10. I pin so much that I decided I needed to start new boards for sewing for me, Mags, and Joey, for things I ACTUALLY PLAN TO SEW. LOL! The answer to the pinning problem is ... wait for it ... more boards and more pinning! No, but seriously, I love this project, and this dress is just classic and FANTASTIC. Yes, it's a bit Downton Abbey, but that's its charm. It's definitely different than the usual RTW fare, and it looks smashing on Tildy.

  11. I love love love Pinterest but I do regularly clean up my boards and I use a lot of the recipes.
Thanks Inder, I think she gets away with it too!
