OOP Simplicity 8576 for Beatrix

I really don't need to sew for Trixie.
Between hand-me-downs from her siblings and so many gorgeous outfits from my sewing friends, you know you are you fabulous people, she needs little.
However, something she did need was a fabulous little statement piece to show off this gorgeous unicorn wool vest her Aunty Sarvi made her.
I have had this pattern waiting, just waiting for her to be big enough.
I sewed it up in a pure linen remnant from the Spotters bin.
It is a grey/greeny colour, very neutral.
The back (take note of those gorgeous wee darts at the neck, waist and elbows) closes with a zipper and I used elastic roulette with hessian buttons.
It may seem an odd choice for a baby but I am thrilled with the result.
It goes perfectly with the tweed Puppet Show shorts (also from Sarvi) and her vintage dungarees I recently sewed.
I have a precious piece of white linen broderie which  I think I may have sew up another in.

Thank you for reading!

  1. Oh my goodness!!! This is soooo lovely and different! Love those sleeves. You know, I was completely obsessed with this type of sleeve when I was a little girl. I thought of them as "princess sleeves." I don't know what they're actually called - my mom calls them "leg o' mutton" sleeves but I've since learned that refers to a different style. Anyway, LOVE this outfit so much!!!

    1. Thank you Inder.
I must confess, I saw an image on Pinterest and then worked on that.
I found the description on a Vintage pattern site and they referred to them as 'leg of mutton' too but I am with you, I thought they were bigger again, sort of 80's bridesmaid.
The vest and shorts are just so gorgeous they needed something very understated. The wee pink shoes were handed down through Liddy and Tilly. They had them for best, may as well let Trixie wear them everyday.

  2. I love this... just goes to prove that you can have awesome feminine stuff that isn't swaths of pink/purple and ruffles! Just perfect!

    1. I am laughing so hard... you wait until you see what i have just made Lidia, you cannot get any more pink and ruffley.
I agree though, think this is deliciously feminine too.
      Thank you!
