I knew exactly what I wanted to sew for Zara for Christmas.
Lekala #5194 custom fit sewing pattern.
In a black and white gingham with the flounce she had denied me sewing on...

and this one.
I adore the flounce and was determined to sew it.
The gingham is a silky cotton from Eliza's of Sunshine, $2/m. It was marked cotton but I was dubious as it has a lovely sheen, however, it ironed on linen so cotton it is.
Sorry to doubt you Mr Eliza.
I added a hem ruffle (with a narrow hem) as I felt like it needed a little something.
I would love to stay I changed the straps as a design feature but I simply forgot. (I was able to check the length on Elsa, twins are handy things)
I think we have a tried and true pattern for Zara.
I do like it with her red hair.
'I interrupted her study and made her take some photo's'
Zara requested another in a crisp cotton shirting.
The nice long back darts help me get a great fit.
I did sew a wee popper to hold the bust wraps together.
~Zara's Verdict~
Absolutely stunning dresses.
Easy to dress up and down. I adore them, so, so much.
I do feel so grown up and mature when I wear them.
Thank you Mum.
And just in case you forgot how gorgeous she looked...

My sweet baby bird is leaving the nest.
So she needs some new clothes.
The beautiful Lekala #5195 which we made her for Formal
Zara loved this dress so much she requested a few more for Summer.
It was a much easier sew this time.
The fabric is a linen from Eliza's Fabric, $7/m.
From 4m I was able to cut this dress, Lisette pj's (to be blogged), Hudson pants (to be blogged) and a hat for Trixie #ninjacutting
Like last time, I took a lot of care with my finishes, setting the straps in under the facings and stay stitching as far as I could.
I also kept a deep hem and hand sewed it in place.
The flat lay shows the clever cut of the custom fit pattern.
The darts which fit her tiny waist but allow ease for her full derriere.
She looks absolutely beautiful.
Look at her waist, so tiny!
I love the extra long ties although they were a pain to turn through.
Worth it, so expensive looking.
Although she carries it well I think we may add some more coverage to the front and sew a wee popper to keep it together.
Although there is no gapping, the inner ties keep it quite snug.
I think it will look super cute styled with a denim jacket and Converse or leather slides and a big hat.
~Zara's Verdict~
This dress is absolutely to die for!
I feel so elegant and mature in it. The fabric is just so lux.
I feel like a woman instead of a teenage girl when I am wearing it.

A very last minute sew.
Zara, originally, had purchased a dress for her formal.
It was cute but she decided it would be more suitable for clubbing rather then an elegant evening out.
She knew what she wanted, a wrap-around slip dress with a very plunging 'V' with ultra thin shoe string straps.
After a peruse of Lekala she found just the dress Lekala #5194.
Custom fit, to her measurements.
I loved the flounce but Zara, not so much, so we left it off.
The fabric is silk satin, from our Melbourne shopping trip $8/m
~Zara's Verdict~
This dress is absolutely to die for!
It is exactly what I had in mind and more. It's sexy but not skanky. The fabric is so, so stunning, it has such a lush look and feel to it.
Luckily I am part of the itty bitty titty community so all I need to wear it is some satin nipple covers.
I really, really love this pattern. I plan to have a white linen one with the long skirt and a black one and a gingham version with a shorter hem.
Thank you so much Mum!!
~My Verdict~
Lekala has saved us, again.
It is so nice to be able to sew something up, without a muslin and know it is going to be pretty jolly close to perfect.
The silk satin was a challenging sew but the drape is divine.
It truly is as soft as cobwebs.
Zara looked so beautiful.
