Mellow Yellow

Did you see Elsa's Christmas dress on Flickr?
We were both ridiculously pleased with it.
The Twins are very into exposed zippers at the moment.
It funky's up the look and it would not be impossible to replace it with a regular zip when the style changes.
Witchery 8-14 Dress
It all started when Elsa spotted a yellow lace dress on the Witchery website.
She had to have it or she would die.
I had a look online for yellow cotton rich lace and some super kind friends sent me some links.
Then I made a little discovery whilst Liddy and Tilly were playing dress ups.
A 1960's cotton guipure lace wedding dress.
It had a few holes here and there but it was such lovely fabric I though it was worth a go.
I used a combination of a vintage Simplicity pattern and the oliver+s School Photo dress to mimic the Witchery dress.
There wasn't much left over!
After cutting I dyed the lace as well as a few bits and pieces that I thought I might need.
I had to zig zag the centre front seam so I dyed a piece of cotton webbing to possibly cover that.
As the fabric was quite delicate I basted it to the poplin lining and treated both pieces as one.
The basted piece with a neatened centre back seam.
The centre front seam was quite apparent so I stitched the dyed webbing over it.
Chance would have it I found some yellow thai silk for the facing.
A nice little lux touch for a party frock!
 And there we have it!
(I will go into more detail about the zipper when I post Zara's Fairy Tale dress tutorial. By the time I got this finished it was 10:30 pm Christmas Eve and I still had baking to do)
See you then!

  5. That is a great idea Jane.
I think I may be able to contact her via her DIL. I know she won't mind as she passed it on for dress ups.
