Hugo's turn for something sewn.
He wanted jeans.
These jeans but black!
I used this pattern as a base but fiddled with the cut lowering the waist and taking in the hips and thighs.
Hugo particularly like the pockets with the piping so I fiddled up those.
I used a poly rich webbing as flat piping in the hope that it wont catch stray colour.
For the same reason I used oatmeal coloured thread.
I lined the pocket flaps with some silky Japanese lawn.
I used the same for the pocket bags.
In hindsight I needed to make the pocket flap a wee bit wider.
Oh,yes,I decided to line the yoke too.
In for a penny in for a pound!
A bit of creative zigzagging filled in the gap on the pocket flap.
Lots and lots and lots of topstitching!
This make me so happy!
So does this.
They fit!
They fit well!
Awesome!
Now,I am off to the pool.

*Edited 2017, do not use lawn for the pockets bags, use a sturdier fabric as the lawn rips very quickly*
I am in awe! They are perfect! Seriously amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Peta.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to have done this and he be really happy with them. It means I can keep sewing for him.
(Until he gets a girlfriend)
xx N
They are amazing! All that topstitching - perfect. And the fit - perfect :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Justine,it is a bit wonky in places but oatmeal top stitching? Thanks 'Go!
DeleteI am pleased with the fit although a wee bit firm, maybe?
xx N
Looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteDo you use a single or twin needle for topstitching? Your corners are perfect - a feat that eludes me with a double needle.
Thank you Deb.
ReplyDeleteIts is just two rows of stitching but thank you for thinking it looked like a twin needle!
Denim ones next and a few khaki pairs for work.
xx N
That is some gorgeous work, Nicole. You have a right to be proud (of the jeans and the boy)...
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI am so happy to mastered jeans for Hugo. He is like his dad,not a standard fit,so to get these right first 'go' is a huge buzz.
I am so glad he still wants me to sew for him. We were chatting hanging out washing and he said that he always wants me to make his clothes. I pointed out that that was fine now but his future girlfriend may not like that much. He was quiet for a few minutes and then said 'She can choose the fabric'
xx N
That is so funny! She'll have to like it if she picks the fabric;)
DeleteFingers crossed!
DeleteThese are amazing. You and Cindy really are amazing they way you can sew jeans so well. In awe of you two!
ReplyDeleteSarah,in my case, its just following the pattern. I did lots and lots of fittings too. The best tip was to sew the inner leg first and then sew the outer leg after pinning and checking the fit.
DeleteTry a pair for Margot first?
Thank you so much.
xx N
You are simply the best, Nicole!
ReplyDeleteAwww,thank you Sandi!

I was wondering the same thing as Deb...the topstitching looks flawless from here! The jeans look great! Will you do a little distressing like the inspiration pair?
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy!
DeleteI won't distress this pair but I would to do that to a denim pair.
Off to Google.....

Crikey Nicole these are amazing! You have outdone yourself, truly.

There are no words. I'm in awe. I hope he loves them and you're able to make many more for him.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanna,I know you know how exciting it is to make groovy boys stuff that they like!
Deletexx N
These are just awesome. I would be so proud to have sewn something as wearable and on trend as these for my boys. Just fantastic
ReplyDeleteRachel, its silly but I am proud. I made jeans for the Twins years back but I had lost my nerve.
DeleteThe Kwik Sew patterns are not the 'sexiest' looking packaging but check out e-Bay for their jeans patterns and have a go!
Thank you

These are seriously amazing. Out of the park, Nicole. I love that you are still able to sew for him.
ReplyDeleteThank you Brittney!
DeleteI love it too!

These are absolutely amazing, Nicole! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Melanie!

You brave lady! I can't believe how great these look. You are lucky to have a boy who will let you sew for him and Hugo is lucky to have you for a mom!
ReplyDeleteHe he Erin. The fact that the drill is from a 30 m roll Jed picked up for me for $20 helped the brave factor!
DeleteBut seriously, thank you. I feel that after these I can tackle just about anything for him.
xx N
there's nothing you can't do... you never need to go to a clothing store as you can sew everything !!!
ReplyDeleteRachel,you are so kind!
DeleteI have not tackled underwear and I really don't know if I cold do that one,he he,thank you!

ReplyDeleteawesome jeans Nicole! I love all the details that you included it really finished them off so nicely :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily.
DeleteI think the secret is to find a picture of a groovy pair and 'compliment' the stitching like mad!
xx N
You have outdone yourself this time, Nicole! These are INCREDIBLE!! You hit it out of the park. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThank you Inder, sewing for boys can be hard but Hugo has a great sense of fun and a pretty thick skin against teasing it is worth the effort to get it just right!

These are so lovely, I am slowly mastering boys jeans after sewing around 20-30 pairs with zip fly over the years, but yours are amazing, so nice to make something an older boys wants and needs! Now we have to get Liesl to make a zip pants pattern! Ive been asking for years!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katja.
ReplyDeleteI agree,a pair of trousers with Liesl zipper fly would be awesome!
