A Quick and Dirty Post

Not a polished piece of writing this but I am assuming everyone just wants to get the dirt on Liesl's new patterns.
Thanks to Elsa being a moo and as a punishment her lacey shorts being put to the back of the queue I decided to go next!
The Liesl+Co Weekend Getaway dress

And I fancied theWeekend Getaway dress.

What size to make was the next decision and the sweet Justine and I discussed that for a good hour and a half!
After further emails with my Canadian Gal Pal Susanne (for whom I purchased this pattern for her Birthday- PDF's make great gifts)
I was diddling between the 12 and the 14.
As I am in the process of shedding some pudding I went with the 12!
As I love you all I shall share my measurements-be nice!
Hips 41 inches
Waist 32 inches (blush)
Boobs 40 inches
Weight 70 kg 154 pounds
Height 5 foot 3 1/2 inches

I sewed up the side seams with a narrower 3/8ths seam for extra ease and it is perfect!
Marie-Antionette is a little thinner bitch
The back pleat gives great ease whilst keeping the nice shape.
A belt give the dress a shirtmaker look.
Now, the fluffy stuff......
Its a great sew, truly Oliver+s-ish instructions, neat finishes and lots of tips.
The PDF is awesome, seriously NO ONE does a PDF like these guys.
I cut mine to the length of a size 16, I wish I had added another inch or so, just so that I could have sewn a deeper hem.
The recommended fabrics are soft and floaty. I used a very light cotton poplin with a wee bit of stretch and it is fab.
I have some very nice voile and silk for another couple of dresses but I think I may size up to a 14 for that fabric.
That said, I have already cut the blouse version from white linen in a 12.
If you like the no longer available Portfolio you will LOVE this dress.

Have fun Ladies!
xx N

  1. I love it! And yes I was hoping to see more of the new patterns made up. And I love that you shared your measurement and sizing details (what a tiny waist!) as I have bought the late lunch tunic pattern and was trying to decide what size to make. I am sure that we are going to love the women's patterns as much as the kid ones.

    1. Thank you, the waist is not too bad, its the tummy underneath-sigh. But my babies are totally worth my trashed belly.

I think I will try the 12 in the Late Lunch tunic...then I can wear it over a skivvy if it is too big.
I am sick of kitting out my skinny girlfriends.

I am so excited about Liesl's patterns!

  2. Nicole - this is fabulous. Love seeing the details and I love it on you - looking forward to some more pics!
Thanks for sharing your measurements - we are nearly identical!
And I always enjoy our chats :-)

  3. Woo Hoo! Looks great, Nicole!
And I agree with the PPs...sharing measurements helps a lot when trying to decide what size to make. I'm pretty close to yours, except I have almost 6 inches on you and less boobage!;)

    1. Thanks Cindy.

Its a bit scary writing the numbers down but I find photos can be hard to judge.
I must admit, getting a good fitting garment means more to me then the size on the pattern.
Does that mean I am becoming a grown up?

    2. Yes, I think it's a sign of growing up (: The funny thing, looking at photos on a computer screen, gives me little idea what "size" people are. I guess that kind of shows people look good in all sorts of sizes.

I was interested to see Liesl's new patterns...I think this one will be fun in lots of different fabrics.

    3. You are so right!
I also know I am far harsher on myself then other ladies!

    1. I really like this one Sarah, it feels a little snappier then my beloved Portfolio as there is less fullness, but very similar.

  5. So you bought all 4! I like the color and fabric you chose for this one. I don't think I've seen it yet with a belt and I like it, so thanks for sharing that.

    1. I was a HUGE lisette fan Rachel so I was definitely in with 'oliver+s' for mummies!

The tiny sizes may even be okay for you.

  6. Thanks for the size info. I might be alright with a 12 given those stats. Although I am taller by 4" so may need extra length. I can't wait to see what you do with the other patterns!

    1. Katy, I would have definitely sized up in a soft floaty fabric but I know from my Portfolio's, a stiffer fabric looks better, that bit more fitted.
As it was a stretch poplin, I had some ease.

  7. "Marie-Antionette is a little thinner bitch" Bahahaha! Nicole, I love you.

The dress looks great on you! I love it in a solid.

  8. I love seeing this dress made up and sharing your measurements has been really helpful. I'm 174 cm tall so I will have to add a few inches by the look of it. I admit, I bought the pattern for Leisels FBA instructions and wondered if you used them?

    1. I didn't use a FBA but I will use Liesl's instructions if I need to. They look very straight forward.
The blouse sews up beautifully, its lots of fun.
      Thank you!

  9. You've had 5 kids and have a waist that little? Wow :D With proportions like that you should be wearing little nipped-in waist things like the Colette Hawthorn! I think you've done a lovely job on this dress. I'm afraid none of these new patterns really grabbed me as my style, much as I want to like them.

    1. Oooh, you are nice Jane, you can come again.
Don't give up on the new patterns, think linen and comfy and casual. I think they are just the thing for a Adelaide summer. Wait until you see a few more...
I must admit to being a huge kimono sleeve fan as they hint at a waist but still let you eat a good lunch.

  10. I've said it before Marie Antoinette might have a rocking figure but she is so very boring and you can't get a word out of her.
    You look fabulous!

  13. You look stunning Nicole!
I do like the styling with the belt.
BTW I'm always so impress with your fabric choices - I can only pick fabrics for my girl, I wouldn't dare to pick a fabric for myself :)

  14. Thank you Ana Sofia.
I used to wear all the colours of the rainbow but as I get older (and plumper-sigh) I find a solid neutral works best for me.
Funny thing is, I always LOVE Justine in her beautiful clothes in fantastic prints.

I loved your black dress you sewed for choir-stunning!
