KwikSew 1242 Polo Top and Simplicity 9978 Shorts for Jed

Second outfit for my love.
Something a bit more casual.
Kwiksew  rugby, with short sleeves, and sized back, as a polo top.
Paired with some knit shorts.
I know, you are thinking, whoop-de-do, knit shorts, big deal.
But Jed has requests.
Deep pockets with a narrow opening so he won't lose his phone.
Double elastic waist band, for comfort
Legs, not too long and waist, not too high.
That was a major pain.
As the pattern had a natty little waist band and faux fly I had to shorten above the crotch and adjust the pocket opening.
He had better appreciate it.
(He does appreciate it)
I love the double button tab on this shirt.
It looks so professional.
I used rubber buttons sewn with red thread.
To echo the red print in my labelling tape.
There you go Mr Whiskers!
Jed chose the cotton navy/pink stripe. I purchased it from a wholesaler in Adelaide but they will sell to you if you have an ABN and buy a big order.
Think 10 m+.
Jed is well pleased.
His only request for next time is a slighter deeper chest pocket that will hold his phone.

Of course, My Love.

  1. But, his phone is in the shorts pocket. ;)

Very nice job, Nicole. Very handsome, Jed.

    1. I will let you in on a secret, that is my phone, Jed still uses a 'dumb phone'. A chunky brick of a farmers phone that has been baled, dropped in a water trough and run over....and is still going.

Thank you Sandi, from both of us!

  2. Yes, the phone is in the shorts! (See I pay attention). I'm really in awe of this shirt - it not only looks professional, but designer. You are so good at this kind of sewing.

    1. Thank you Masha, that is kind of you.
I find I have to slow myself with knits and treat them like a woven, then I get a better result.

  3. I love this whole outfit - I've been looking all over for rugby knit and I can never find it! I'll have to keep an eye out on eBay for that Kwik Sew pattern. I too absolutely love that double placket....tell Jed great job modeling!

  4. And as soon as you get that right he'll probably upgrade to some big 6" semi-tablet type phone! Fussy bugger. ;)
    Looks great, job well done.

    1. Not likely Shelley, he is still 'dumb phoning'.
Thank you, he is fussy, really really fussy so I am pretty happy to get to right.

  7. I agree on the pocket to hold the phone. Nothing worse than a small pocket and the phone falls out. Shorts and shirt look great. Jed definitely rocks a pink shirt

  8. You are right Jen, I am hoping I can put a wee bit of velcro to hold it shut too.
Thank you, you made him blush.

  9. You are a sewing legend. I am always in awe of how well you alter patterns to fit your
needs (or requests). I am trying to talk Ben in to letting me sew some pants for him as he is super picky about pocket depth and I would like a challenge, but his answer was to just make him a bigger pocket in store bought pants. HA!

    1. Be of strong heart, Britters. Jed is so hard (indirectly) on me when I sew for him. However, when I get it right, it is wonderful.
      Thank you!

  11. Where did you find the rubber buttons?

  12. They are jolly hard to find Kelly, Spotlight and Lincraft used to stock them but I picked mine up on eBay.

  13. Wow, I haven't been on your blog in a while. Your sewing is amazing, I'm loving all your Thread Theory sewing, great to see them on your hubbie and your son (ie different shapes/ages). Might have to give them a go as I have 3 males in my household. How do you do it all?

  14. Hi Jen, lovely to hear from you!
I was watching Bargain Hunt theatre week and they were in your area.

I can thoroughly recommend Thread Theory and I think I may have to try you Camas blouse pattern.
