Oliver+S School Bus Tee and Class Picnic Shorts for Lidia

Is there anything nicer then sewing for Lidia?
sporting her new hair cut for 2016
Not really.
A cute School Bus t-shirt by O+S
In a very stretchy cotton/lycra
Liddy's chest measurement was a wee bit larger then the size 12 sizing but it looked roomy enough when I held the pattern piece to her.
The gorgeous transfer is from VanIkke , they are not cheap but very, very good quality.
I advise taking your time applying them, letting them cool properly between pressings and peeling the clear layer off slowly and carefully.
The transfers I used in the past are still going strong.
Cold wash, dry away from direct sun.
I sewed the neck band using this method, it gives a really polished finish.
To be worn with the Class Picnic shorts.
Which are a really cute sew.
I used a dark, stretch denim trimmed with a light blue denim, finished with some jeans style topstitching.
Although being nearly 12, Liddy measures up a size 8 in these shorts and they are plenty roomy enough.
I was really pleased with the look and the denim sewed up pretty well.
I have a step-by-step tute here if you feel like some hand holding.
Do you like her new hair-do?
Very grown up.
Lidia's verdict.
''I love it and it is really comfortable. It is easy to move around in.
It also looks nice.
The stencil is a little bit babyish for me, next time I would like this one.
Both the shorts and the t-shirt fit perfectly and I love them''

Thanks for popping by, please leave a comment if you have time. Things are getting pretty quiet around here.

  1. Thanks for sharing the link to the transfers. I've never seen images that looked that nice before. I love the two tone denim on the shorts, but since it is -6F here today I think I'll have to wait a while to try something similar. :) BTW your daughters hair is super cute and really suits her.

    1. Dwylie, they are gorgeous. The problem is which ones to choose!
-6F, far out. I cannot comprehend that, I am guessing you are in Canada?

I love that we all Blog to our own seasons, it gives me some great ideas.

PS I will pass on your compliments to Liddy. ETA, I did and she said thank you!

    2. I'm actually in the northern US. I even looked yesterday to see if I had the shorts pattern stashed away, but it isn't in my current Oliver+S patterns. I might have to pick that one up. Shorts are so fun. They are quick and take so little fabric.

    3. The USA gets such extreme weather, snow and then heat waves. We think our throats are cut when it is 10C (50F).

The Class Picnic is a great pattern, I have lost count how many blouses I have made.

  2. I can see why she likes those stamp transfers!

A question: do your kids usually wear the same size in most of the O+S patterns? It seems a bit odd that she is two sizes apart in the top and shorts, but I also remember that when I made the puppet show shorts for my niece I thought the sizing was strange. I made the 3T shorts for her (and they fit well) when she was 18mos, and then for her 2nd birthday I made (an admittedly very adapted) puppet show dress for her in size 2T, and it was enormous on her.

  3. Thank you Katherine.

The Twins were very consistent, top and bottom sizing but Lidia does have very broad shoulders, so she is really two different sizes.

The Puppet Show is a funny fit. The tunic/dress is (in my opinion) very roomy but the shorts are tiny! I tend to only make the biggest size shorts (in each pattern size) no matter what size tunic I am making.

So we are unanimous in that! (What movie was that from)?

PS The stamp transfer has been ordered for my grown up girl!

  5. lovely set, sweet transfer. I have these shorts on my list, in denim too, and will be reading thru your tute when I get up to them!

  6. They are such great shorts Colette.
You don't need the tute but I will direct you to the wee scrap of interfacing I use, it helps a lot!
    Thank you!

  9. Seriously fab. You should take commission for the products you utilise & use/make so successfully. It's great marketing! :)
I'll be making a boys pair of these shorts & will get online with Miss E to select some VanIkke transfers for herself. Ha. Excited nearly-3y.o yelling shall be heard in these parts.

    1. Thank you Renae.
I get such a buzz when someone says they buy a pattern or try a product because of me. Wow, that is some compliment.
The VanIkke cart self empties ( annoyingly) so you need to check out or pin her choices because you will not remember. There are so many cute ones.
Do make the shorts. I think they would look awesome on boys too.

    2. Oh dear N! If you could only see inside my brain. It's full of your fantastic sewing. ....I'm sad that it's taking me so long to get on with creating all that you inspire! 😊

    3. Aww thank you!
It is ironic, the more lovely babies you have to sew for the less time you get.

  10. Perfect summer casual outfit! Your t-shirt neckline is so perfect and clean, I must try that method, and the shorts are adorable. Lidia is growing up! She's a lovely lovely girl, and I am a big fan of bangs (I think you call it "fringe"). So French and chic.

    1. Thank you Inder.
I struggle with knits, I really do. If they don't look smicko my tribe only seem to wear them to bed as pjs. I really like that neck finish.
The haircut was her idea, a bit too grown up for me
She says thank you and blushed when I passed on your compliments.

  11. I'm reading, I'm reading, and I adore Lidia's outfit! I really need to show Clare what you've been sewing for her lately.

I think that blog reading on mobile devices has become really detrimental for commenting on blogs - it's so much harder! But rest assured that plenty of people are out there admiring what you've made. I think that my Mum is one of your biggest fans, by the way!

Your mum reads me? That is so awesome, thank you!

  12. Lidia is so polite :) Great outfit.

I have also noticed the blog reading slowdown. I attribute it to Instagram. I do not have a smart phone (one of the last holdouts in the world, I assume), and as far as I know you need one to use it. So I think I am missing out on a lot of sewing chatter!

    1. Thank you Masha.
I think you are right. I was not trying to be precious and I hope I didn't sound that way. I love blogging and have met so many lovely people.
I was late to Instagram but I do enjoy it. I like the fact that it is quite private so I can put up photos of my children without worrying about freaks.
Thank you so much for your support.

    2. It is more private? That is good to know. I recently had quite a scare on Flickr. I will probably post about it soon ... but there are definitely freaks out there.

    3. My account is private. I had it public for one day and got freaks/adds.
So I am private now, people who like you, find you.

  14. Aw, I love the cute fox! I don't think he's babyish! I understand that kids have their own opinions though. Kiela is almost 10 now and she has told me nothing babyish anymore :( They just grow to fast!
I love the outfit and your transfers are gorgeous! Her hair is so grown up too

  15. They do Kristin, unfortunately (just kidding)
I ordered her another transfer and she is very excitedly waiting for her next turn.
    Thank you!
