School Days

2014
Tildy's first year at School
No more Kindy-girl

Tildy wearing and Oliver+S Jumprope dress
The first day went so well!

Our school is just lovely.
With neat and tidy grounds.
Arriving at the Junior School.
Hanging up her school bag for the very first time!
So exciting!
Are you ready?
It was terribly hot, 42d (celsius) but clever Miss Sommerville and Mrs Twelftree had a brilliant activity planned.
Numbers frozen in water balloons!
The children were able to touch them and examine them with a magnifying glass.
What clever clever teachers.
We feel privileged to have our children at such a lovely caring place of learning.
Hugo in Kwiksew polo top and O+S Sketchbook shorts
Zara&Elsa in Deer and Doe Bleuet dress, Liddy and Tildy wearing O+S Jumprope dress.
School Days!

  1. Wow, all of them at school - what a big change for you! I love that you have some flexibility with their uniform too - you have made so many gorgeous items for school uniforms, and the sneaky touches of Liberty etc are so special. Best wishes for a marvellous year ahead for all of you.

    1. Thank you Lara.
I am being a wee bit naughty but so far no one has challenged me outright.... and I am very good at misunderstanding criticism and taking them as compliments.

I figure while there are seniors in cut off denim shorts my uniforms will do!

PS It is very quiet at home, luckily there has been lots of meetings and we are straight into the swimming carnival.

  2. Wow - those uniforms are lovely. You are so lucky to have some flexibility with those. Do other people dress their children different too? ie not what the school uniform shop sells. :-)

    1. Thank you Taryn.
You can purchase a dress through the school, its about $120! What I sew is pretty similar.
I was lucky enough to find a roll of the fabric on eBay.
Most students wear blue polo tops and navy bottoms but there are a few other school dresses (handed down) being worn.

    1. Shelley, I tossed and turned over my decision to send Tildy early. My other children all started later and had extra kindy.
But the Prep class is very well done with a strong 'learning through play' philosophy so I think she will be okay.
      I hope
      Mother guilt!

    2. Oh dear, i didn't mean she's too young but she's just such a little titch if a thing! She looks impossibly cute and thank heavens she isn't in an ill-fitting over sized shop dress. The she'd look teensy! Size doesn't matter a bit. I'm sure she's sharp as a tack and can hold her ground when she needs to!

    3. That's Mother Guilt showing her petticoats!

      Thankfully, she has settled well.

  5. 42 degrees C is horribly hot! Did the temperature break a record?
Right now it is -26 degrees C outside where I live. School is cancelled (again) for today due to the frigid temperatures.
    Happy first day of school!

    1. So so very hot Rachel, poor children but the classrooms are cooled and there is a shaded swimming pool at the school.
Our weather has been extreme. We have indeed broken records, it has got to 47 d at our farm.
Thank you for your warm wishes!

  9. Oh, so nice to visit your school - love the spacious and neat grounds (ours in in the middle of the big city. Not as great).
And yes, we're still having a mild winter (12Āŗ C compared with frozen temps elsewhere in Europe and in the US), but I would love to have your lovely warm weather for a couple of days (not really a winter person).
Hope they all had a fab first day at school! As far as I can see, they are definitely the best-dressed students :)

    1. Thank you Ana Sofia.
We are very lucky to have such a wonderful school and great facilities for such a small group of students (100 prep to seniors)

It has been so terribly hot this year a bit too hot for me....

    1. So little Katy.
I can't believe that bag, I bought it in Woolworths for $6 and it came with a lunch bag and a water bottle!
She has used it for a year and I have washed it in the washing machine each term and it is still going!

I want to make her a LTTS backpack.

  13. Wow, it must be so quiet for you! I haven't been able to let my little one go yet, even though she is the only 3 year old in the entire city still at home. But preschool here is extremely expensive and the wait lists are horrible to deal with. Your kids look so sharp! They must have the best looking uniforms in school.

  14. It is very quiet Melanie but with so many activities first term I feel like I am constantly in at the school!.

3 years old is so tiny to be going to school!

    Thank you
