Shorts

By Deer and Doe and me.
The Chataigne shorts
Zara was next for some new strides and she chose some shorts.
They are supposed to be for school but I think they may be worn before.

There are two front pockets which I lined with Liberty.
Sneaky school uniform.
The two piece back waist band ensures a lovely fit.
The back flaps are faux but still super cute!
The shorts do up with a side invisible zipper.
And are fully faced.
Another way to sneak in some pretties.
From the Deer and Doe website
In conclusion
Love them, fab sew. The instructions are not 'fluffy' but everything you need to do is there.
If you have not installed an invisible zip before I have a few tips in this post.

Zara was the smallest size for the waist and the next for her hips so I simply traced the waist pieces for the size 34 and the front and backs for the size 36 and blended the two.
Perfect.

I used a mercerised gabardine for the main and a Liberty lawn for the facings. As the lawn is quite fine I interfaced all the waist pieces, main and lining.

A lovely sew I will definitely do again.
(Even if I can't pronounce the pattern name)

  1. Agh, the internet ate my comment! Try again. I really love the way you make these gorgeous variations on school uniforms, Nicole. Deer & Doe patterns are next on our wish-list to stock at the shop. My best year 8 French guess on the pronunciation would be 'shatain' or 'shatainya' but guess is the operative word!

    1. I think Blogger is having a bad day Jane, it keeps eating my replies!

Thank you, my children just don't need the fancy sewing, they need school clothes. So they may as well be fun.
And, so far, so good. No one has complained....

      'Shatain' -good to know!

    1. Sharon, I think the front band of these could be made with a stretch fabric for comfort.
I am going to give it a go!
      Thank you

    1. Thank you Mel, they are very flattering on her. She has a very curvy bottom but the style of these shorts flatter that well (and her tiny waist)

  7. great shorts. I like the way the waistband sits. I detest pants that fit my hips but have that back waistband that's slack enough to tuck a watermelon in. I'm intrigued by these and will have to look at the Deer and Doe model (she usually looks like she has a backside) on the website to see how they look.. :)

    1. They are very easy to modify Shelley. Zara has quite a bottom but tiny waist and the cut suits her well.
      Thank you!

  8. When I saw this pattern come out, I wondered how soon it'd be until you make it, hehe! They're very cute and so well-made.
Do you rotate through your kids?

    1. I loved it Joy, love at first sight (Justine texted me when it was released).

I do a sewing rota, sewing for each of us, one at a time (with the odd emergency project)
It works well and everyone gets something new, I get a variation of projects and it stops me making too many pretty dresses for Matilda.

  10. Thank you Virginia, why be dull?
With them all at school now, I need something pretty to sew.
