Adjustment

I married a man with short legs.
And we passed them on to our son.
Isn't he gorgeous?
Now trousers and jeans are easy to knock a bit of the hem, but track pants look really odd if you just trim the bottom.
Time to have a play with those lengthen/shorten lines on the pattern.
Using a pair of purchased trackies (mine actually, that Hugo nabbed when my belly got too big) I noticed they are lower in the waist as well as shorter in the leg.
So I took that length out of both sections.
Rather the cut the pattern, I folded the length out.
The pattern I  used had pieced together legs, so each section had to be altered.
That is a lot of length!
Making sure things match up.
The waist section had different shortening lines so I did have to alter notches.
I took the time to re-trace the pattern pieces as I figure a good pair of trackies is going to get made again.
I did leave the pattern folded though, Jed fits in the size range, you can see what I am thinking.
And there we have it.
Track-pants that fit!
No soggy ankles.
I used the leftover fabric from Jed's rugby very yellow rugby
Just in case they didn't work out.
Its a heavy knit with very little give but very very sturdy.
I did run a stencil down one leg, I kid myself it slightly breaks up the yellowness!

Hugo is wearing the Liesl+Co Metro tee and the track pants pattern is a old NewLook from my stash.
I have doubts it would still be available.

  1. I think Hugo looks perfectly in proportion :) And I love that your blokes are confident enough to carry off colour like that yellow. How's baby cooking? Surely not long now?

    1. Thank you Jane, long legs short legs, I think he is pretty awesome.
34 weeks now and chuffing along nicely, just a little bit sad that it is nearly over.

  2. Graphic down the leg makes the pants even more professional looking. Pants look great on beamish boy!

    1. Thank you Deb, the stencils are dead easy to use and I hope they make things a tad more acceptable to his peers.

  4. Yes, he's a sturdy, strong-looking lad! No issues there. As a short-side-of-average woman, I'm convinced that RTW and big 4 patterns are made for crazy giants! Good looking pants!

    1. He is a very healthy rough and tumble young man, you should see him play footy, he has a booming voice!
So many patterns are so long, especially mens!
      Thank you Inder.

  5. Clever adjustment. They look like a great fit. I have a tall-in-the-torso-short-legged hubby too. He and my brother are the same height standing up but my brother is all legs so there's a good few inches difference in height when they sit down!

    1. Thanks Shelley.
I do have to add length to Hugo's shirts as well so they may have a similar physique.
He doesn't like bought jeans at all!

  7. That is the best thing, isn't it?
The bonus is, they fit the Twins too, so they would like a pair each too.
    Thank you
