(Another) Forest Path Cape

I made another...
Another O+S Forest Path cape.
I sewed it up in another piece of fabric from our Melbourne shopping trip.
It is a lovely, soft, fluffy wool/poly mix. Quite loosely woven so I edged stitched all the edges,(before construction) not just the shoulders (as directed in the pattern instructions).
I lined it with a pearl pink silk satin.
A happy mistake, I cut this out during our recent SA power outage and in that dark I mixed up the lining I had set aside for this and some silk for a top for Zara.
The silk was slippery to sew but will breathe all the better and there is plenty left for Zara.
I made Tilly the size 8 as I want it for next Winter, it is definitely not overly big on her (her chest put her in the 4) so I think it is a pattern you can safely size up in.

The extra room will mean she can wear layers under it. This cape will be very handy and to fill the void until I make her new coat.
The buttons are enamelled shell from Ebay.
I just love them.
~Matilda's Verdict~
I really love the buttons they are very cute.
the in side is made out of silk and it is very soft.
The out side is very warm because it is made of wool.
Thanks, as always, for reading.

  1. Aha, I see what you did there in the upsizing now. Looks great! I really like this length & fit. Seems a bit of a 'smoother' fit somehow than some I've seen with this pattern. Delicious lining & buttons too. :)

  2. I had not actually planned to make her one, Renae but I drafted the 8 by mistake when I was drafting the 12. I originally figured I would sew it up next year but she loved Liddy's I had had given away the next size coat that would have been hers (the purple wool Kestrel) so this will be a good filler.
Jed bought her some alpaca wool (not saying how much it cost) and I am making her a School Days, size 8. It is a grey/blue herringbone and gorgeous, soft and warm.
    Thank you!

    1. Haha. This has been doubly happy mistake-make! :D The purple Kestral coat was so regal - glad Miss T's being spoilt with some alpaca wool as a replacement. Sounds divine. lovely.

    2. Tilly wanted her mate Jazz to have 'matching' coats, it was very sweet to see them in them.

  3. Just gorgeous. And with our weird weather it is nice to have a wonderful cape to pop on to cope with the changes.

  5. Love this and specifically wanted to see the sizing. It's such a good length and drape in the bigger size. I was thinking of making another for A and now I know to jump fro the current too small 4 all the way up to an 8!
Which makes me wonder, does Baby B need a size 4?? :)

    1. I am so pleased the post was useful. It definitely works, oversized.
I would absolutely love a size 4 for Trixie, if you have no other takers, yes please!

  6. Oh, this is so sweet! Very practical for spring too, since it can provide an extra layer for chilly evenings or mornings without being too bulky. Beautiful fabric choices! Lined in silk! Lucky girl, that must feel divine.

    1. It will fold up a lot smaller then her coat too Inder, for her school bag. Once again, a pattern I dismissed as a bit dull is brilliant!
      Thank you!

  7. This cape suits your lovely daughter so well. I wondered if she wanted one after seeing her sister's. It's nice that she'll be able to wear it for a while.

    1. Thank you, yes, she likes to be like her sister. They both wear them riding their bikes. They look so natty.
Tilly will get a lot of wear from this, I predict it will go straight to Beatrix.

This skirt is wearing so well, I guess being furnishing velvet it is nice and tough.

  9. Oh so lovely. I have a remnant of some mossy green herringbone wool that I think I might make for my daughter (with pink lining of course!). She is normally a size 7 in O&S but I think I might size up to a 10 as the larger size drapes so much better. I think some of those gorgeous buttons might be in my shopping basket already!

  10. I was really surprised at how little fabric this pattern actually used, very economical.
I am so pleased you got some buttons, they are so cute and wash well.
    Thank you
