Forest Path Cape

I tend to sew methodically.
I have so many patterns now I don't buy new ones unless I need them *unless they are vintage eBay*.
I have owned the Forest Cape since its release but no one needed a cape and, I confess, it looked a bit of straight forward sew so it was pushed down the queue.
Liddy found the poly/wool cloth ($9/m) in Melbourne and wanted a soft jacket.
She rejected the O+S  Fire Fly as she has one for school already, the Heidi and Finn cardigan was only for knit so I suggested the Forest Path.
I knew it would be well cut and great instructions but I was anticipating a fairly dull sew.
Well, much like Lidia's Rollar Skate dress (which I also dismissed as ho-hum) it was an awesome sew.
The instructions are so good.
Good, solid foundation stitching, tips for turning the perfect curves, pre-marking and applying interfacing, ironing advice.
The lot.
You could probably skip them and still get a cute garment, take the time to do them and you will get a gorgeous garment.
The cape is very neat but still has plenty of room. Lid's can ride her bike, bounce on the trampoline and sweep the veranda just fine in it.

I used a stretch, satin backed crepe (also from Eliza's) for the lining.
It was $3 in the remnant bin.
The buttons are lush!
Iridescent, enamelled shell from eBay stitched with black embroidery silk.
worn here with the Field Trip tee and Art Museum trouser.
   ~Lidia's Verdict~
I think this cape is so cute and gorgeous, it works great with my red trousers and my blue and brown bead headband.
I love the turquoise buttons and the fabric is just gorgeous with the petite little red pattern of the material. I have already decided to wear it to Nan's next time we go.

I don't sew as many O+S patterns anymore. Beatrix has so many hand-me-downs (including many from dear friends) but it was a pleasure to pick one up again.

  1. Sweet cape!

My youngest stated at age 9 - "I want my OWN clothes, I'm sick of her clothes, they don't look good on me". Right!

Now the girls are almost the same height (aged 11 & 15), but are different shapes, so no more hand me downs. Sighs.

So far, my girls love hand-me-downs, I will take it while they do.

  2. That is the cutest jacket! I don't think I've ever seen that pattern before, which is strange, because I usually keep a close tab on Oliver+S patterns. I don't think the pattern illustration does it justice. Beautiful job!

    1. I really wish I had sewed it earlier. It is perfect for cold mornings that turn into warm days- not so bulky in the school bag.
Thank you, I have another cut already.

  3. What great taste Miss Lidia has in fabric! The color looks wonderful on her and the style of the jacket is beautiful. I have to check and see if I have that pattern!

Thank goodness for vintage patterns or I don't know what Liddy would now she is out of O+S, Figgys and Clever Charlotte.

  5. Oh, adding a PS here :) I am using your tutorial on another O+S pattern, the 2+2 blouse. I hope to post it later this week. Thank you for all the helpful hints on these patterns. I have loved the top stitching down the facings. It is so neat and tidy looking.

  6. I love the cape - red is my favourite colour! I made one for myself and the adult's pattern is just as good. It's turned out to be a very versatile piece for me.

    1. I feel quite silly about this pattern. Like the Seashore and the Roller-skate , I dismissed this pattern as a dull sew, but its not and its cute.
      Thank you!

  9. Ohhh this is so pretty... looks like it would cost a small fortune to buy from a swanky designer store. Lucky girl!

  12. I will have to wrestle it off Zara as she has nabbed.
Your version remains my very very favourite adult one that I have seen.
