Sewist #5023981 'Zimmerman Inspired' dress for Lidia

Pattern here

Sewist is up there with Pinterest for my new favourite computer activity. In fact, as I often find the inspiration photos on Pinterest I guess I am combining the two.

Lidia loved this Zimmerman playsuit and asked if I could make a similar style dress (she is not a fan of the public loo vs jumpsuit scenario)

After a few attempts I came up with the above design and I think I did rather well.

The fabric was a remnant of a silky lawn I purchased from Spotlight and I lined it with a light weight cotton/rayon mix. Although Sewist is a custom fit pattern company I still made a muslin. In this case, I simply made the lining first and checked the fit with that. Apart from shortening it, it was perfect.
The jumbo sized Ric Rac came from my stash and I assume was given to me. It was very stained but nothing a soak in Napisan couldn't fix.
If you look closely, you can see tiny self covered buttons running down the front of the dress. They are purely for decoration but definitely add that 'Zimmerman' flair.
Speaking of flair, check out those sleeves!
These four sections make one sleeve. I have never sewn anything like this in my life.

My Sewist dress pattern finished with a deep cuff but Lidia requested a bound hem instead.
I decided to use a regular zipper rather than and invisible zipper as I find the latter prone to break and a lot harder to replace.

Although not a fan of jumpsuits Lids loves a mini dress but isn't keen on showing her knickers. Thus when ever I sew her a mini dress I use that 70's staple, the hot pants (also lined with the same rayon/cotton) to save her dignity.
You really don't notice them.
Ta dah!
A beautiful dress for my beautiful girl.

For a very special event
Elsa's Bridal Shower.

Thank you for reading... xx Nicole
