A Basic White Tee

Zara requested a basic white tee.
Go figure, it was one of the most expensive patterns on Lekala
Now, I don't know what happened but my pattern arrived looking a wee bit different.
See how the upper front is attached at the shoulders?
No instructions with this one at all.

I ended up sewing it like a Hopscotch tee by binding the neck first and I used this method, as usual.
The body was very fitted but the sleeves had a lot of fullness, way too much for Zara's taste, so I pinched quite a bit from the under arm of the sleeve.
It resulted in a very nice fitted tee.
I think we may pinch a little more out of the sleeve as she would prefer them more fitted.
The cotton/lycra I used is very stretchy and only a very stretchy fabric will do for this cut.
We got a great fit across her shoulders and waist but I will add a few cms to the back at the hips, it does ride up.
But, over all, a lovely fitting custom fit tee.
~Zara's Verdict~
The t-shirt is an incredible fit.
Once again I recommend Lekala patterns. Mum did an exceptional job making it, especially seeing I was wasn't very easy sewing for this time 'round.
I love the fabric, it is so soft!

Mmmm, apology accepted.

xx Nicole

Next up, custom fit jeans!

  1. The pattern is a little unusual but the results look lovely! You really cant go past a tnt tee pattern so I am sure your larger investment will pay for itself quite quickly.

    1. Thank you!
I am not sure what was happening with that pattern or if I sewed it up correctly but she is happy, so I am happy!
It is a great source of patterns and they are so cheap!

  2. It really is custom-fit and a perfect basic. I just bought some eggshell colored cotton/lycra thinking that I would make myself a top ... but with all these little ones I don't feel it would have any chance of withstanding spots ...

    1. Save it for winter Masha and use it for layering. The only time I wear white is going out or under a denim shirt, at present.
I have white jeans on today, GP appointment for a sore shoulder, and I am taking a farm ute so I have put a towel down but they are already dusty, le sigh.
      Thank you!

  3. Ooh I like the style of this one. And I agree about the sleeves. They look a liitle like partly extended wings. Taking them in further will eradicate that. I have to show Imogen the Lekala site just to see if she would like to try them also.

    1. Thank you Jing, it is a natty little tee. I wasn't sure if she would go for the front panel but she doesn't mind that at all.
Yes, that is Trixie, getting so big so fast!

  5. Having a custom fitting basic tee like this will really be a keystone piece in her wardrobe. Another great choice!

    1. I think so too Aynsley, she has a Witchery one, several years old, that gets worn to death. It was very expensive though so, hopefully I can extend the sleeves on this one and it will do.
      Thank you!

    1. The front panel is quite sporty, isn't it?
Sewing for teen girls is a mile field, so hard to get the balance of honesty, rudeness and very normal teenage behaviour right!
Combine that with a hormonal breast feeding/night disturbed motherland it can be a bit messy.
I really appreciated her acknowledging that.
      Thank you.

  7. What an interesting way to get a perfect V neck without mitering the binding! This would also look really cute as a color or stripe blocked tee.

  8. I wasn't to sure it would work Vicky. I nearly cut the shoulder seam but thought I should trustee websites algorithm and give it a go. The body fit was pretty close to perfect!
I love your idea of colour blocking...
    Thank you!

    1. Back in business Nicole!! ;)
Great classic work. Interesting to see the front panel in action on this pattern. I thought it would bug me, but once on it's hardly noticeable & the tee looks really really good. Perfect fit; good work on pinching out the sleeves.
Perhaps it's b/feeding brain, but I chuckled aloud @ these comments. ...Teenage communication threw me back into high school teaching classrooms. :)
& towels on car/ute seats!! Lol. You can take the girl off the farm, but pair her with a carpenter & the clothes vs ute dust continues.

  12. Thanks Kristin, I am still not sure if the pattern was meant to be sewn that way, no instructions at all with this one but it worked, so I will take it!

  13. I love this! You are so brave with those Lekala patterns ... I find that site a little scary. Scary too is the idea of sewing for teens, but I've an up-and-coming tween girl that I'd love to try sewing for; it's patterns like this and that hooded one of yours (also Lekala) that really tempt me to try. You're always so inspiring Nicole.

  14. Thank you Hilary.
The site is a bit confusing, I must admit I had to get the girls to help me navigate it.
I think communication is the key with sewing for teens (with everything I guess)

Thank you for your lovely, lovely comment.
