McCalls 8927 Overalls for Matilda

Matilda had a birthday.

Ten years old, I can't believe it.
That makes ten years I have been on the inter webs.
I was never interested in computing (I took drama at school so I didn't have to do 'logo')
When Tilly was born I hurt my back during delivery and was laid up in chronic pain for nearly 12 months.
Jed got me a Macbook and encouraged me to look at sewing things online.
I really think I avoided PND through finding the Oliver+S website
I have made friends, many I chat with on a daily basis and some I have even met up with!
You chaps are a pretty special bunch. 

Any hoo, you came here for sewing, where were we? Tilly's birthday, right!

 I have had this Brooke Shields McCalls 8927 earmarked for Tildy for quite some time. I knew Tildy would love the cut and she is a sucker for a cinched in waist.

But then I asked her what she wanted for her birthday and she chose this.

Okay... that is very Not Tildy.
So I got a little sneaky, I cut out the above dress while she was at home as I knew it would need a lot of fitting...

And I very quietly worked on the overalls while she was at school.

I was a tiny bit nervous about my fabric choice but she had picked this wild fabric out of the remnant bin at Spotlight.
I figured if she didn't want to wear it out, it would be great as an art smock.
I asked for button help from the #sewingaunties and the pink, enamelled shell ones won!

The overalls fasten with a cute, asymmetrical over flap.
The two large pockets are functional.

The collar is set into the facing and the facing is held in place with a metal popper.

You could also wear it opened at the neck and folded back.

It is wonderfully 80's.

With the oversize sleeves, full hips but nipped in waist and tapered legs.

It doesn't scrimp on nice details though, a lined back yoke and belt loops and carriers.
It also has a long sleeved option and side pockets but the pattern piece was missing for the pocket and there was simply not fabric left anyway. I had to piece the tie in three places.
#ninjacutting.

I didn't quite have it finished for her birthday morning so I had it waiting when she got home.

She liked it!

It is totally Tildy.

She loves cinching things in around her waist. I am always telling her to loosen her sash.
She can tighten this one as much as she likes.

~Tildy's Verdict~
I LOVE the bright colours.
I also like how it looks like someone has splattered paint all over me.
I really like jumpsuits because they make me feel happy and active.
So, over all, this jumpsuit is perfect for me.

~My Verdict~
Another cool little Op Shop find.
Some of the pieces are missing, the side pocket and tie but I could make it work, any way.
I actually think this pattern could look gorgeous made up in a denim look linen with MoP buttons, with a leather belt?

I had so much fun sewing this, keeping it a secret just added to that.
I am so happy she likes it.

PS The cake

Lidia made the cake for Tildy, all by herself.
It is a chocolate cake with mint butter cream and home made marshmallow fondant.
It was amazing!
